School Library Journal Review
Gr 2-5-Scott Nickel's book (Stone Arch, 2007), in graphic novel format, tells the tale of two hapless lads who fail a test at school and decide to travel back through time. to redeem themselves. They nearly become a dinosaur's dinner and barely escape with their lives, returning just in time-to take a test. The CD-ROM format allows students to see Steve Harpster's brightly hued illustrations while listening to the humorous story. Unique voices are created for each character. The words appear on the screen as the speech bubbles are performed. Sound effects and some minor animation are added for comic book flourish. Menu options, always available at the bottom of the screen, allow viewers to turn the sound on and off, navigate through the story, or quit. Special features include information about the author and illustrator, a seven-word glossary, five weird facts about dinosaurs, discussion questions and writing prompts, Internet links, and an interactive option. The CD contains only the audio portion of the CD-ROM. Ais A fun story with special appeal for reluctant readers.-Teresa Bateman, Brigadoon Elementary School, Federal Way, WA (c) Copyright 2010.
