Summary

The lives of childhood best friends Kate, Vanessa, and Dani are unraveling. In Philadelphia, good girl Kate is dumped by her fiancé the very day she learns she is pregnant with his child. In New York City, beautiful, restless Vanessa, a stay-at-home mom, finds herself obsessively searching the Internet for news of an old flame. And in San Francisco, Dani, the wild child, an aspiring writer who can't seem to put down a book--or cocktail--long enough to pick up a pen, has just been fired from her twelfth job in half as many years.

In an effort to escape and regroup, Kate, Vanessa, and Dani return to the New Jersey beach town where they used to spend their summers. Emboldened by the seductive cadences of blue-sky days and warm nights, the friends find themselves doing things they would never do in their September-to-May lives.
