Summary

Summary

Thrilling adventure series for middle-grade tastes.

Ranger is a golden retriever with search-and-rescue training. In this adventure, he travels to a Maryland plantation during the time of American slavery, where he meets a young girl named Sarah. When Sarah learns that the plantation owner has plans to sell her little brother, Jesse, to another plantation in the South, it means they could be separated forever. Sarah takes their future into her own hands and decides there's only one way to run - north.

Horn Book Review

Ranger, a search-and-rescue golden retriever, time travels to preCivil War Maryland. He helps slave siblings Sarah and Jesse escape through the Underground Railroad before Jesse is sold to another plantation. The action-packed story moves along briskly to its positive conclusion. The series' time-travel-adventure premise makes for an appealing introduction to historical fiction; black-and-white illustrations and an author's note are included. Reading list, websites. Bib.
