Booklist Review

On magazine-like pages, these titles in the National Geographic Kids Everything series are teeming with rapid-fire facts, beautiful full-color photos, playful quizzes, and insight from scientists in the field. The creatures profiled in Everything Reptiles are a wide-ranging bunch, and the graphics-heavy pages do a great job of distinguishing between types of reptiles and offering concrete tips on telling them apart. Nearly all the text appears in bite-size boxes, and although the approach makes for busy, sometimes unfocused page layouts, reluctant readers and kids who prefer to browse will be easily drawn in (though an unfortunate typo, which makes a contradictory point, will be confusing). Still, the photos are entrancing, and a series of quizzes, comparisons, and an interactive glossary, which invites readers to search back through the text to reinforce the vocabulary, make these titles mighty engaging.
