Summary
What's white and fluffy and curious about everything? A baby polar bear, of course! This cub is no exception -- and here is the exuberant, full-color, photographic proof. Under the ever-watchful, adoring eye of her mother, this youngster romps, frolics, and explores her world like any human child. And when all that playing works up a young bear's appetite, well, Mom is there for that, too. Miela Ford aims her lens and presents yet another irresistible family album of the furriest kind.

School Library Journal Review
PreS-K-A baby polar bear wakes up before his mother. After a short deliberation, he nips her on the ear and invites her to play. With stunning full-color photography, Ford presents the imagined thoughts of this adorable cub interacting with his mother at a Rochester zoo. The pictures feature animal expressions that truly enhance the short, playful text. Baby bear and his mother have so much fun that human mothers and babies will be inspired to romp and frolic, too. This book can compete with a real visit to the zoo. A sure favorite for preschool and very beginning-reader collections everywhere.-Jackie Hechtkopf, Talent House School, Fairfax, VA (c) Copyright 2010. Horn Book Review
Simple text in large, clear type captions color photographs of an adorable polar bear cub rousing its mother for a bit of pre-lunch play. The basic but engaging narrative teaches concepts--in/out, head/tail, follow/lead--as it entertains. From HORN BOOK Spring 1999, (c) Copyright 2010. Booklist Review
Ages 3^-8. Charming and inventive are the two best words to describe Ford's latest addition to her repertoire of animal photograph books, which also includes Bear Play (1995). In the simply written, humorous story, illustrated with photographs, a polar bear cub awakens and crawls over its mama, pleading for her to rise and play. Poor lay-about Mom doesn't want to budge. But as every human mother knows, there will be no peace until she does--and the ensuing play session is a rollicking, frolicking delight. Baby bear crawls in and out between its mother's legs, rolls around, and plays follow the leader. Ford's superb pictures add to the fun by offering some good visual puns. --Shelley Townsend-Hudson
