Booklist Review
Schools with native American units--i.e., all schools--will be interested in the stories and activities that this book provides for kids to enjoy. The focus is on the special relationship between native peoples and wildlife, and the authors show great respect for both, as well as for the young people who are the book's secondary audience. A useful opening chapter gives tips and techniques for conducting outdoor activities, staging puppet shows, and catching and caring for animals (insects, frogs, snakes, turtles). The rest of the book consists of more than 20 stories that come from Indian nations across the U.S., each bolstered by discussion topics and activities. Librarians, scout leaders, and others who work with children will appreciate this volume, too. A glossary and pronunciation guide are appended. ~--Ilene Cooper
