K-Gr 3-Each spread in this brief biography contains no more than five sentences as well as one or two black-and-white or color photos, or color illustrations from Seuss's works. However, the book states that "After college, he drew cartoons for magazines. He changed his name to Dr. Seuss so he would seem more important." Other biographies indicate that Geisel began to use the pen name as an undergraduate at Dartmouth. Only one word, "characters," is shown phonetically in parentheses. The concluding spread, "Words You Know," has smaller versions of eight of the pictures, with identifying words-"cartoon," "Sneeches," "parade," etc. The photo of the cover of The Cat in the Hat is out of focus.
