Summary
In this charming story, a mama cat loves her kitten through all the seasons: in autumn, when they rake leaves into piles; in winter, when they sled down snowy hills; in spring, when they fly kites; and in summer, when they splash together in the water. Parents, grandparents, and all the special people in a child's life will love sharing this sweet celebration through all the seasons of the year and in years to come.
Kay Chorao's warm and colorful illustrations bring to life Deborah Lee Rose's endearing verses, which capture the many ways a child is cherished year-round."Full of charming details and gorgeous colors, the love between each parent/child pair is obvious, and readers may find themselves wishing to share the same activities with a beloved adult of their own."

School Library Journal Review
PreS-Gr 1-This rhyming story portrays a mother cat's love for her child "as the seasons flow." With two spreads devoted to each season, the first-person narrative describes some of their favorite activities. Chorao's lush illustrations in gouache, colored pencils, and ink fill the pages with colorful pastel depictions of the momma and her kitten diving into a pile of autumn leaves, sledding down a winter slope, flying kites in the spring, watering summer blossoms, and celebrating the youngster's birthday in the fall. This cozy book would be a good choice for a storytime about the seasons as well as a comforting bedtime read.-Martha Simpson, Stratford Library Association, CT (c) Copyright 2010. Horn Book Review
Rhyming couplets express a feline mother's enduring love for her kitten throughout the year. The characters enjoy each season's highlights, including winter sledding, spring kite-flying, summer swimming, and autumn leaf-raking. The overly sweet verse paired with nostalgic gouache, colored-pencil, and ink illustrations add up to an uninspired, though warm-hearted, package. (c) Copyright 2011. Booklist Review
Sweetly detailed illustrations enhance this love poem that introduces a young clothed cat to the four seasons. Beginning with fall makes some sense to children whose eyes are on school, September may feel more like a new year than January. Each section begins with I love you when . . . and leads into a description of the season; the structure and words work together to offer comfort to young listeners. Delicate paintings in pale colors depict a bucolic setting featuring pumpkins, colorful leaves, and migrating geese in the fall; snowflakes, red berries on branches, and a sledding hill in the winter; kites, daffodils, and butterflies in the spring; and sunflowers, bees, and a swimming hole in the summer. Fall returns, and the story closes with a birthday party, a creative way to indicate the passage of one year. The cat's age and gender aren't specified, which broadens the appeal of this gentle entry to the multitude of books about the seasons.--Foote, Diane Copyright 2010 Booklist
