Summary
The Dragon Keepers series is perfect for readers who've finished Mary Pope Osborne's Magic Tree House series but who aren't quite ready for Harry Potter. It's super-accessible fantasy that's imaginative and adventure-filled!
In The Dragon at the North Pole, dragon keepers Jesse and Daisy wake on Christmas morning to a winter wonderland-it snowed overnight! Knowing that their dragon, Emmy, has never seen snow before, they hurry to the barn only to discover that she's disappeared. She's left a note behind- "Gone with Santa." Santa?! Can it be true? With the help of two pairs of magic snowshoes, Jesse and Daisy visit the North Pole to find out!
Author Notes
Kate Klimo has always believed that Santa Claus is the ultimate and, for many of us, the very first fantasy hero in our lives. When she was a child, she always stayed up late the night before Christmas to see if she could hear the ringing of sleigh bells or the rumble of reindeer's hooves on the roof. To this day, she thinks there is something about Christmas that's just a little bit more magical than any other day of the year.
Kate lives in New Paltz, New York, with her husband and horses. For more information, visit FoundaDragon.org and TheDragonKeepers.com.

Horn Book Review
Book six of the series sees cousins Daisy and Jesse following their dragon, Emmy, to help Santa Claus. But something's fishy at the North Pole, and it turns out that the person they've been helping is actually the legendary hero Beowulf. Younger readers may crave the real-deal Santa, but there's adventure and magic aplenty. Whimsical black-and-white illustrations open each chapter. (c) Copyright 2014. Kirkus Review
It is Emmy the dragon's first Christmas, and she is determined to meet Santa Claus even if she must travel all the way to the North Pole to do it. Ten-year-old cousins Jesse and Daisy have been Emmy's Keepers ever since she was an egg small enough to fit in a dresser drawer. But by 7 months, she is as big as two elephants and has a sassy attitude to match. On Christmas morning, the two cousins find an empty barn and a note from Emmy explaining that she is helping Santa. With the assistance of some magical snowshoes, Jesse and Daisy are able to follow their charge to the frozen north, where they meet up with St. Nick. After a ghastly meal full of endangered animals and several threatening remarks from Santa, the cousins realize that the man in the red suit is not Santa at all, but Beowulf, an infamous dragon slayer. Filled with magic, mythology and mystery, this creative story will enchant longtime fans of the series as well as newcomers. Emmy's combination of sass and childlike behavior will resonate with young readers heading toward their preteen years. Corny humor and a cheesy ending feel just right. Fizzy and light series fare.
