School Library Journal Review
K-Gr 1-A quirky collection of socks, the rhythmic sounds of Rosa's neighborhood, and marching ants eating crumbs from pants pockets are likely to tickle the funny bone of beginning readers. Unfortunately, the font in Ants will be difficult for these same readers to decipher, and the sentence structure in Socks may confuse them, given that the poem stretches over many pages. Simple computer images in vivid colors illustrate Socks and Ants; a more subdued palette is in evidence in the pen-and-ink and watercolor artwork in Rosa. Many quality beginning readers are available; pass on these inferior titles.-Bethany L. W. Hankinson, Miller Elementary School, Newark, OH (c) Copyright 2010.
