Hiaasen's (Bad Monkey) latest is a selection of supposedly the best installments from his Miami Herald column from the past decade or so. While Florida is frequently host to events too bizarre to be believed, much of the humorous weirdness that Hiaasen is known for writing about is missing in this work; most of the included columns are political in nature, and the Republican-bashing wears a bit thin regardless of the reader's own beliefs. There are a few gems included, but overall the compilation feels like a halfhearted effort. Arte Johnson, best known for Laugh In, does a fair job narrating, but the lack of enunciation and a handful of jarring mispronunciations may make the listener believe that Johnson was not familiar with the content before recording. Verdict A marginal purchase, recommended only where Hiaasen's works are extremely popular.
