Horn Book Review

Narrator Almasy's reading of the latest installment in the Clementine series is very contemporary and just a teeny bit over the top -- completely appropriate for the voice of the vivacious, live-in-the-moment third grader. Here Clementine's best-laid plans to bribe her classmates into saying really nice things about her as "Friend of the Week" go awry after Moisturizer, her beloved kitten, goes missing. Almasy's delivery is not just animated but also fluid and accomplished, and she distinguishes secondary characters with ease. Listeners will find themselves engrossed in the story and empathizing wholeheartedly with Clementine -- and wishing that they, too, could write in Clementine's "Friend of the Week" booklet about "why it's so great to have her around." martha v. parravano (c) Copyright 2010.
