Publisher's Weekly Review
James Beard Foundation hall of fame member and award-winning cookbook author Ojakangas (The Finnish Cookbook), invites soup and bread lovers to sample, "the rhythm of the seasons" in this plentiful pairings cookbook. Ojakangas's "soup travels" has earned her a qualifying role to educate and suggest some of best and simplest seasonal recipes. After a brief description and glossary of stocks, broths, and basic breads, the book becomes a compilation of seasonal favorites included with cultural commentaries. Perfect for traditional holiday recipes or impromptu get-togethers, every ingredient contains only in-season vegetables or fruits. Some of standout pairings include: "Spicy Mango Melon Soup & Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins," a spring time recipe which Ojakangas recommends for Mother's Day brunch. For summer, she offers a "Spicy Revitalizer & Carrot Breadsticks." Autumn's "Colombian Chicken and Potato Soup with Corn & Almojabanas" and winter's "New Year's Good Luck Lentil Soup & Ezekiel Bread" are nice and hearty for those colder months. Ojakangas's creative and flavorful recipes are a soulful reminder of the "pleasure of soup and bread." Color photos. (Oct.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
