Summary
Finding each other was only the beginning . . .
When Kate Darby swerves off a mountain road to avoid hitting a California condor, she ends up trapped in her car, teetering on the edge of a cliff. Terrified, she breathes a prayer that changes her life.
It's Nick Sheridan who comes to Kate's rescue. Nick is handsome and confident, and he seems to develop a habit of rescuing her, but Kate is in town only until her grandmother recuperates from a stroke. She's not planning to get involved with one of the locals.
Nick is a reformed veteran of life in the fast lane, a new Christian, and a travel writer. When he sees a car dangling on the edge of a cliff, the daredevil in him jumps into action. He doesn't expect to be swept off his feet by the car's occupant. He's made a vow--no dating for a year--but keeping that vow is going to be a lot more difficult now that he's met Kate Darby. . . .

Publisher's Weekly Review
Kate Darby has grown from an orphaned girl into a high-powered advertising executive living in Los Angeles; Leona Darby, her grandmother, is the only family she has. When Leona suffers a debilitating stroke, Kate has no choice but to return to Meadows, the rural California mountain town of her youth, where she meets Nick Sheridan. A freelance writer for the newspaper Leona owns, Nick is also a former womanizer who has found God and made a pledge: no dating for one year. The camaraderie between Kate and Nick is easy from the get-go, and Kate's presence soon challenges Nick's vow. As comfortable as life becomes in Meadows, Kate still has responsibilities in LA. And then there is God. Nick is committed to his faith while Kate struggles to believe that God exists. Bylin, who has written several historical romance novels, pens a strong character-driven story. Deftly handling the faith element, she brings an authenticity to Kate's search and Nick's steadfastness that will resonate with readers, regardless of their religious persuasions. Booklist Review
Kate Darby and Nick Sheridan both believe that they have all the answers. For Kate, security lies in the job she loves and in her credo of living life focused solely on the day in front of her. Nick has recently given up his wild ways, making a pact between himself and God to stay on the straight and narrow. Life tends to interfere with plans and good intentions, however, and when Kate is literally derailed en route to care for her grandmother, she and Nick find themselves in a storm of confusion over their feelings, their faith, and their futures. Bylin tells a sweet story about the power of love. All readers will relate to the characters' struggles to balance their own dreams and ambitions with the needs of those close to them, while readers of faith will understand all too well the lessons Kate and Nick learn when they realize that the events God has set in motion are far more fulfilling than what they could have imagined for themselves.--Richard, Carolyn Copyright 2014 Booklist
Library Journal Review
While traveling to stay with her stroke-stricken grandmother, Kate Darby takes a corner too fast and drives her car off a cliff. Not a big believer in God, she has a change of heart and asks Him to help if He really exists. Aid does arrive, albeit in the human form of handsome Nick Sheridan. Nick is a new Christian himself, recently retired from life in the fast lane. Staying in town to care for her grandmother, Kate forms a closer bond with her new acquaintance. Initially, neither one had intended to stay around long, but the more they are with each other, the more difficult it becomes to contemplate leaving. VERDICT A delicious romance, with a leisurely pace and a lighthearted story line. Readers seeking a simple, straightforward tale of love without too much tension or angst will find much to like here.
