Library Journal Review
Harriet Vane is tired of being notorious. Recently acquitted of the charge of murdering her lover, she is taking a walking tour of the English coast to avoid both her past and Lord Peter Wimsey. Not only have Lord Peter's sleuthing skills been responsible for her acquittal, he has also fallen in love with her. Independent, prickly Harriet does not feel deserving of his adoration and has fled London to regain her peace of mind, but her search for solitude is disrupted by the discovery of a body on the beach. Aware that the authorities are likely to view her as a possible suspect, she also contacts the London newspapers. Unfortunately, as soon as the reporters get the story, so does Lord Peter, who rushes to Harriet's side. It's just as well that he does, because the mystery is so complex that it takes the combined talents of the two of them to unravel the plot. Have His Carcase is one of Sayers's most involved mysteries. Actor Ian Carmichael's reading is easy and fluid, and he obviously enjoys "doing accents" for his secondary characters. Recommended for medium-sized or larger public library collections where golden age mysteries and the works of Sayers are popular.Barbara Rhodes, Northeast Texas Lib.
