Summary
Summary
Young stock car fans looking to learn more about their favorite sport need look no further than NASCAR's Greatest Drivers, a survey of the greatest drivers in racing history. Featuring in-depth bios of and stats for Glenn "Fireball" Roberts (whose nickname came from playing baseball, not racing cars), Richard Petty ("The King"), Dale Earnhardt, Sr. ("The Intimidator"), and Jeff Gordon ( the "face of today's NASCAR")--along with brief entries about four others. This is a leveled reader kids will race to pick up!
Angela Roberts is a middle-school librarian. This is her first book. She lives in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Horn Book Review
This volume highlights the personal lives and racing accomplishments of four NASCAR drivers: Glenn "Fireball" Roberts, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Sr., and Jeff Gordon. A final chapter includes paragraph-long descriptions of four other racing greats. The many photos add appeal to this volume intended as a transition for early chapter book readers who still benefit from lots of visual support. (c) Copyright 2010. Booklist Review
A basic introduction to NASCAR, the hottest sport in America, opens this short, collective biography of notable drivers, past and present. Full chapters are devoted to four men: Glenn Fireball Roberts, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Sr., and Jeff Gordon. Each of these opens with a present-tense account of a famous race, backtracks to follow the racer's career, and ends with a page listing his main achievements. Four other drivers, Sara Christian, Bill Elliott, Janet Guthrie, and David Pearson, are profiled more briefly. With fairly large type and plenty of illustrations, the book will appeal to young NASCAR fans who are beginning to read chapter books. At least one photo, usually in color, appears on each double-page spread. From the Step into Reading series, the book is a serviceable choice for library collections, particularly where stock-car racing is popular.--Phelan, Carolyn Copyright 2009 Booklist
