School Library Journal Review
Gr 1-3-As three children prepare for a show, readers are introduced to the horses at White Lane Farm, the preparations, and the basic events. Conflict arises when one of the children must ride a more difficult-to-handle pony because his scheduled mount is lame. The descriptions and illustrations of the gymkhana are entertaining. Ample white space and compelling color photographs of young equestrians competing in English-style riding are appealing and encouraging for youngsters who may take lessons but don't own their own horses. Everything works out well for the riders, all of whom win ribbons. A solid addition for independent-reader collections serving horse fans.-Lisa Falk, Los Angeles Public Library (c) Copyright 2010. Horn Book Review
Guided by their teacher, three young riders, two girls and a boy, prepare for and compete in a horse show. The easy-reader text follows their events (walk, trot, and canter; gymkhana; and jumping) and includes information on horse care and four different breeds, all shown in clear color photos. Occasional sidebars add further facts on safety and horse care. Ind. From HORN BOOK Fall 2001, (c) Copyright 2010. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
