School Library Journal Review
Gr all levels-A visual feast appropriate for children of all ages, these 12 videos new videos in the series mix the usual DK quality with delightful music and little-known facts. They grab viewers from the beginning with slick and appealing introductory graphics and then plunge right into the meat of the subject. The narrator's voice is subtly captivating and never boring. The tendency to explain things from different historical perspectives is very appealing. In Planets, ancient myths and odd notions complement the more well-known facts. Perfect for rounding out a specific subject study or just for enjoyment, these excellent videos should find a place in all school and public libraries and will be useful for most grade levels.-Teresa Blankenbeker O'Donnell, Chattahoochee Valley Regional Library System, Columbus, GA (c) Copyright 2010. Horn Book Review
Grant documents the history of flight: from ancient myths about humans trying to simulate bird flight and pre-twentieth-century balloon experiments to twenty-first-century space flight and stealth airplanes. The busy color and black-and-white graphics are so prominent that they often distract readers from the informative prose. Text boxes offer statistics, and a variety of short reference appendices are included. Glos., ind. From HORN BOOK Fall 2003, (c) Copyright 2010.
