Author Notes

Jen Lancaster was born in November 1967. After graduating with a B. A. in political science, she worked for an HMO and then at a technology company. In December 2002, after being unemployed for over a year, she launched a website to air her frustrations about unemployment and it gained popularity quickly. Her first book, Bitter Is the New Black, was published in 2005. Her other works include Bright Lights, Big Ass; Such a Pretty Fat; Pretty in Plaid; My Fair Lazy; Jeneration X; If You Were Here, and the Tao of Martha.

In Lancaster's (Bitter Is the New Black) latest, she tests the hypothesis that her life would vastly improve if she would just do everything the way Martha Stewart would. For one year, the author makes all of her decisions by asking herself one question: What would Martha do? With those answers to guide her, Lancaster organizes her pantry and spice cabinets, plans holiday parties for Easter, the Fourth of July, and Halloween, attempts Martha's laundry regimen, and much, much more. This fresh and original work is filled with humor and wit. The author narrates and is able to get across the exact inflection and emotion that were used when she wrote the book. VERDICT This title is recommended for anyone who enjoys a solid, humorous memoir about self--discovery/improvement.
