Summary
Summary
Little Pip is so excited for Christmas! "WAKE UP!" he says to Daddy Grizzle early one winter morning. "I think it's Christmas Day!" But Daddy Grizzle tells him that it's not Christmas yet. "In fact," says Daddy Grizzle, "there are four sleeps 'til Christmas-four whole sleeps to wait." Poor Little Pip wonders how he'll ever make it, but Daddy Grizzle assures him that they still have many things to do-they need to find a tree, send Christmas cards, and much more. Will Daddy Grizzle be able to keep his little cub busy until the big day?

School Library Journal Review
PreS-Gr 2-Daddy Grizzle and Little Pip were last seen in How Many Sleeps `til My Birthday? (Tiger Tales, 2013). Here, Little Pip wakes each morning excited, only to be told that there are still a few days before Christmas. Daddy Grizzle finds different ways of distracting Little Pip; finding their Christmas tree, writing and delivering their holiday cards, wrapping presents. A spread with dark blue text on black background with just the white of someone's eyes visible perfectly illustrates Little Pip's surprise and joy when the big day finally arrives. The mixed-media illustrations are warm and welcoming and the satisfying ending makes this a fine addition to any holiday collection.-Diane Olivo-Posner, Los Angeles Public Library, CA (c) Copyright 2014. Publisher's Weekly Review
Though they are bears, Daddy Grizzle and Little Pip aren't hibernating for winter, but there's still a fair amount of sleeping to be done before Christmas. In the days leading up to Christmas, Little Pip wakes Daddy Grizzle up first thing each morning, certain that the big day has arrived. Each time, Daddy Grizzle reminds his offspring that there are still a few more "sleeps" left before Christmas, and they use the remaining days to find a Christmas tree, send cards, wrap presents, and build snowmen. Braun's good-natured cartooning and Sperring's warm prose create a realistic father-and-child relationship between the two bears; Daddy Grizzle gets a tad frustrated with all the false alarms ("No, no, no, not now! Not yet!"), but he never loses his temper outright, and he's always right at Little Pip's side for every holiday activity. Ages 3-7. (Sept.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
Horn Book Review
WAKE UP! I think it's Christmas Day!" a bear cub tells his dad each of several mornings before Christmas. This non-preachy lesson in delayed gratification has father and son filling time by choosing their Christmas tree one day, making Christmas cards the next, and so on. Like the text, the illustrations are aggressively targeting "cute" and "cozy"--and hit their mark. (c) Copyright 2015. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
