School Library Journal Review
Gr 3-5-Each book opens with short, interesting historical details on when and why special days for mothers and fathers were established. Two pages of brief text and color photos describe each of the 10 projects. Projects in Mother's Day include bath salts, cupcake magnets, a jigsaw photo frame, and a paper-plate tulip sun catcher. Craft ideas found in Father's Day feature a plastic lid coffee-cup coaster, a decorated plastic comb, an IOU book, and a felt eyeglass holder. One project calls for coloring or lettering with Magic Markers on felt; a hint on what types of markers work best on this fabric would have been helpful. Both books explain how to transform CD cases into photo frames. At times the instructions are skimpy but photographs fill in some of the gaps. Useful hints for completing or embellishing the projects are tucked at the end of each one. Traceable patterns for selected items are included. While similar crafts can be found in a variety of other resources, librarians looking for ideas specifically for Father's Day or Mother's Day might consider these books as supplementary purchases.-Lynn K. Horn Book Review
A brief introduction to each featured holiday is followed by textual and photographic instructions for creating ten relevant crafts. The series' strength is its weakness: the projects are simple and require easy-to-come-by supplies, hence yield unspectacular results. Cartoony icons clutter the already-busy pages, and the ""Holiday Hints"" for each project are superfluous. Reading list, websites. Ind.
