Summary
#1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot's first middle-grade series continues!
Allie plans on having the best weekend ever when she finds out Erica's sister Missy is in the regional Twirltacular baton competition-until Allie's mom announces that she has to go to Brittany Hauser's birthday party instead. But Allie doesn't even like Brittany Hauser, nor does she want to go to a party with Brittany and all her snobby friends...
But when Allie finds out Brittany's party includes taking a stretch limo to Glitterati, the store of the girls' dreams, and spending the night at a deluxe hotel suite, she decides maybe Brittany's not so bad after all.
Allie doesn't want to miss Missy's grand performance at the Twirltacular. But she's always wanted to ride in a limo! How can she explain to her best friend that she's decided to go to Brittany's party instead? Will her little white lie blow up in her face? And when everything about Brittany's party goes wrong, will she break all the rules to do what she knows is right?
Author Notes
Meg Cabot was born in Bloomington, Indiana on February 1, 1967. She recieved a fine arts degree from Indiana University, Meg moved to New York City, intent upon pursuing a career in freelance illustration. Illustrating, however, soon got in the way of Meg's true love, writing, and so she abandoned it and got a job as the assistant manager of an undergraduate dormitory at New York University, and writing on the weekends.
Meg wrote both The Princess Diaries and The Mediator: Shadowland (under the name Jenny Carroll), the first books in two series for young adults which happen to be about, among other things, teenage girls dealing with unsettling family issues. Her latest book is entitled, Insatiable.
Meg now writes full time, and lives in Key West, Florida with her husband.

Horn Book Review
In this typically funny and age-appropriate entry in the series, Allie is thrilled about her plan to attend a twirling competition with her best friends. That is, until she finds out that "frenemy" Brittany is having a glamorous birthday party the same day. Allie has the chance to ride in a limo to the city, have her photo taken at a famous kids'-party venue, and stay overnight at a fancy hotel. Who wouldn't pass that up? So she pretends her mom is making her go to the party. Unfortunately, Brittany is spoiled and bossy -- forcing Allie to dress up like a pirate at Glitterati even though all the other girls choose their own outfits. Brittany also fails to appreciate Allie's gift: a copy of her favorite book. Though she tries to make the best of it, Allie realizes that having her true friends by her side is what's most important. She escapes the disastrous party with aplomb, a little mischief (in a cheer-worthy moment, she steals her gift back), and the help of some weary but sympathetic adults. It's a gentle way to learn that you should "always be true to your friends, just as you are to yourself." Unlike some of Allie's more restrictive rules, such as "never eat anything red," that's a rule to live by. From HORN BOOK, (c) Copyright 2010. Booklist Review
Tempted by the allure of attending a glamorous birthday party (limo ride, sleepover in a fancy hotel) in honor of a girl she detests, Allie disappoints her friends, who expect her to join them at the local Little Miss Majorette Baton Twirling Twirltacular. And worse, she lies to them about it. Fine-tuned to the nuances of human relations and self-justification, Cabot creates another eminently readable, first-person narrative in the lively Allie Finkle's Rules for Girls series. Readers will feel Allie's strong, if mixed, emotions right up to the satisfying ending. The latest helpful list of Rules for Girls, is appended.--Phelan, Carolyn Copyright 2010 Booklist
