School Library Journal Review
Gr 9 Up-The long-awaited sequel to The Diviners (Little, Brown, 2012) finds that Evie O'Neill has not only rebounded from her close encounter with a serial killer but has parlayed her divining talents into a career as the "Sweetheart Seer" and star of her own radio program. While Evie is enjoying her newfound fame, everything is not "jake" for the other diviners. This installment centers on Theta's pal Henry; his new friend, Ling Chan; and a mysterious sleeping sickness that has struck fear into the hearts of the residents of New York City. While others in the city are fearful of sleep, Henry and Ling, both dreamwalkers, use sleep as a means to make their own dreams a reality. January LaVoy expertly narrates the diverse cast of characters, masterfully portraying everyone from the effervescent Evie to old, conniving Blind Bill. VERDICT This satisfying listen includes strong characters, paranormal experiences, romance, and mystery-all set against the backdrop of New York City during the roaring twenties.
