A canine-centered hide-and-seek serves up another solid entry in Katz's celebration of babies.Master of lift-the-flaps for little ones, Katz takes a curious tot, with her signature rounded shape and stylish clothes, and sends her on a mission to find a missing pup. A straightforward sentence is all that's needed"Baby is looking for the new puppy"and the child is quickly off on the hunt, lifting up newspapers or taking lids off trash cans in her search. Inviting questions elicit thoughtful musings. "Is the puppy behind the shower curtain? / No! / It's my pet turtle! / How did you get in here?" During fiveunsuccessful attempts, a lifted flap reveals a different animal in each location, and the babe's search party grows accordingly. Bold and bright, the flaps are not indestructible (but what flaps are?), and a gatefold opens to a fitting response in the sweetly expected conclusion.Smiles all around for this winsome addition as a toddler teeters along her path to independence.
