Publisher's Weekly Review
Jessie Pringle and her service dog, Toby, move to Pine Creek, Maine, from the bustle of urban Atlanta, where Jessie hopes to move on from the terrible attack that left her traumatized and scarred. She immediately connects with Ian MacKeage, one of the many handsome MacKeages who run the local resort, but worries that her personal demons will drive him away. Chapman (A Highlander Christmas) relies on the magic of Christmas to explain away passages about the MacKeages' mystical abilities, which will only make sense to readers of her Pine Creek Highlander series. But the romance between Jessie and Ian is compelling and sweet, albeit too quick to move past any awkward moments around Jessie's injuries. (Nov.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
Booklist Review
Jessie moved to Pine Creek, Maine, for a fresh start. Her body is still recovering from the brutal attack four years ago that turned her into a widow, and she still relies on a service dog. On her first night, she meets handsome Ian MacKeage, a brooding Highlander who has his own demons after a military tour. Her family and Ian help Jessie find a home, work, and friends. But although everything seems to be falling into place, pieces of her past surface in troubling memories, and she will have to face what happened during her attack before she can move forward. An overlay of magic enters the story in an unobtrusive and enjoyable way. Readers will sympathize with the unusual, struggling heroine while her suspenseful past moves the story forward, and she finds new romance in Pine Creek. Chapman's latest has crossover appeal for holiday, paranormal, and Highlander romance fans.--Alessio, Amy Copyright 2010 Booklist
