When Jane Abbot sees a plane shot out of the sky while she is hunting, she does not think twice about diving into a lake to rescue the pilot. Mark is enchanted by the forthright, skilled, yet shy woman who leads him through the woods to a camp and realizes she is destined to be his wife. A severe limp and years of foster homes have convinced Jane that she is no one special, and she cannot believe that Mark is actually the crown prince of a small country. Because they are both in danger, Mark's courtship involves kidnapping skeptical Jane and bringing her to his palace to meet his brothers, father, and aunt, all uniquely endearing and realistic characters in spite of the fanciful tale. Chapman delivers another trademark independent, intelligent female in this contemporary variation on the prince-in-shining-armor romance. Jane and Mark truly save each other as they learn who is threatening their lives and future.
