Publisher's Weekly Review
Come canceled flights or high snowdrifts, piglet pals Toot & Puddle will be together for Christmas in Hobbie's latest series charmer. Globe-trotting Toot, who has been in Scotland for a family reunion (and who has a tam and tartan kilt to show for it), promises homebody Puddle that he'll make it back to Woodcock Pocket for Christmas. But severe winter weather nearly derails that plan. Luckily, a magical heirloom and a certain red-suited sleigh driver help Toot along. Hobbie's chipper text and alternately cozy and funny watercolors are as winning as ever. Ages 4-8. (Oct.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
Horn Book Review
During a blizzard, Toot struggles to get home to the United States after visiting Scotland, while his friend Puddle gets their house ready for Christmas. Thanks (possibly) to the lucky nut given to him in Scotland by his great-great-aunt and to a mysterious stranger in a sleigh, Toot finally arrives on Christmas Eve. In this amiable fifth book about the two pigs, Hobbie's expert watercolors alternate between snowy scenes and warm interiors. From HORN BOOK Spring 2002, (c) Copyright 2010. School Library Journal Review
PreS-Gr 2-Another charmer about the anthropomorphized piggies. The peripatetic Toot is trying to return home for Christmas after a family reunion in Scotland. Back in Woodcock Pocket, Puddle delves into the holiday preparations in anticipation of his pal's return. He decorates, signs the cards with his name (leaving a blank for Toot to sign), sets the Christmas Eve dinner table-and waits. Meanwhile, Toot is delayed due to inclement weather, and when he wearily gives up, sitting in a snowbank in the woods, he wishes on the lucky nut Great-Great-Aunt Peg gave to him. He is picked up by a mysterious stranger in a sleigh and dropped off close to home. The drama of two friends trying to be reunited holds strong appeal. The whimsical watercolor illustrations and effective formatting are so attractive that children and caregivers will enjoy snuggling together to share this book.-L. F. (c) Copyright 2010.
