Barton attempts to rehabilitate the reputation of one of America's most enigmatic figures, third President Thomas Jefferson. The project is necessary, according to Barton, because of the damage done to Jefferson's character by what he calls the malpractices of modern historical research. Barton asserts that a careful reexamination of the primary documentation reveals a much more nuanced appreciation of Jefferson and his era. Bill DeWees provides clear narration always suggesting that the truth is there waiting to be unveiled.
