Author Notes

Glenn Eichler has written for numerous TV series, in addition to developing and executive producing the MTV animated hit Daria . His previous graphic novel was Stuffed!

Joe Infurnari grew up with his nose cold, wet, and buried in comics. His work has been recognized with multiple Eisner nominations, numerous publications, and membership in the prestigious web comics collective, Act-i-vate. He is a cat person.

Booklist Review

Who knew dogs could have office politics? Eichler, the executive producer of the animated series Daria and a writer for The Colbert Report, infuses this graphic novel with plenty of dry humor and sarcasm. These are no ordinary household dogs; they are sled dogs that need to work together as a team to ensure survival for both themselves and their humans. Each of the six dogs has a unique personality and they all live and work together, which leads to frayed nerves and tenuous alliances. At the same time, their humans sort through their own issues arising from the close quarters and isolation of their snowy habitat. Infurnari's pleasant artwork mostly hones in on the dogs' facial expressions as they jabber among themselves, but handily carries out a few action sequences as well. With drama to match the humor, this graphic novel will appeal to comics readers looking for more cerebral story lines and dialogue from their anthropomorphized animal characters.--Mack, Candice Copyright 2010 Booklist

Venus is tired of being a sex object, Dolly is tired of being a power object, and Patty is tired of feeling helpless and isolated. As for the testosterone set, Guy wants Dolly's job, Buddy wants to have sex with Venus, Winston wants to have sex with anybody just to have offspring, and Frank wants Patty to stop being a wimp. Fiddler? He philosophizes in ironic New Yorker-esque punch lines. Colbert Report writer Eichler (Stuffed!) intercuts two tongue-in-cheek soap operas: six Alaskan sled dogs vs. their human owners out in the wilderness. This double satire of human relationships is delivered with expert zest and plenty of chortles in the best tradition of Thurber and Wodehouse. Underlying themes: pulling your weight and (sigh) the meaning of life. VERDICT Eichler's top-notch writing is evident in scenes like Fiddler coaching Buddy on talking to females while Guy nastily pits colleague against colleague. Infurnari's color art totally nails the personality, look, and kineticism of each character with sympatico insight, plus the manic grace of sled dogs exploding along the trail. Recommended for dog people and fans of intellectual comedy, high school and adult, and a good bet for graphic novel newbies.-M.C. (c) Copyright 2012.
