Booklist Review
As the After-School Sports Club begins T-ball practice, Caleb is supremely confident of his untested hitting skills. Coach reprimands him for heckling the other children as they try to hit the ball off the tee: Sammy slings the bat, J. B. crashes it into the tee, and Allyson whiffs. Finally at bat, Caleb repeatedly swings and misses. When the other kids call out encouraging words, he regrets his own hurtful comments. Later he promises to be a good sport from now on. Surprisingly few books about T-ball are available. The first entry in the paperback After-School Sports Club series, this story reflects the experiences of many young kids in sports. Bjorkman's expressive ink-and-watercolor pictures illustrate every scene with vitality. With its large type, short words, brief text, and appealing artwork, this colorful book will appeal to beginning readers as well as preschoolers intrigued by the game.--Phelan, Carolyn Copyright 2010 Booklist
