The minute handsome, enigmatic "Mark Smith" arrives at Kate Elliot's great-aunt's Hawaiian bed-and-breakfast, the Bird of Paradise Inn, Kate knows he isn't what he seems. Unlike the other guests, Mark refuses to devulge any information about himself except the fact that he's from Boston, even after Kate saves him from a hospitalization-worthy case of sun poisoning. Despite his mysterious nature, Kate finds herself falling for him, pin-striped bathing trunks and all. After Mark leaves, Kate discovers that his true identity endangers the inn and her very livelihood. But Maui magic and the enchantment of the islands are not to be underestimated, especially in matters of the heart. Readers who enjoy such tropical treats as Annette Mahon's Hawaiian romances (The Secret Wedding; The Secret Admirer; Just Friends) will feel right at home with Burrows' book. You can almost feel the tradewinds. --Shelley Mosley Copyright 2003 Booklist
