Gr 8 Up-Aria has been banished from Reverie, a pod community that was created to protect its inhabitants, the Dwellers, from the mutating storms that began wreaking havoc on the surface hundreds of years ago. The Death Shop, a wasteland located outside of the pod, is supposed to be lethal. Even the air can kill a Dweller. Although Aria was not supposed to survive in the outer wasteland, she is rescued by Peregrine, an Outsider, and survives the extreme environmental challenges, gets stronger, and develops traits that she thought had been genetically removed by her society. Perry, who is on his own quest to rescue his nephew who has been kidnapped by Dwellers, agrees to take her to a place where she might be able to find help in locating her mother, who is conducting genetic studies. Veronica Rossi's debut novel (HarperCollins, 2012) takes listeners to a world torn apart by violent storms and genetic mutations. Can an Outsider and a Dweller work together to help each other in their quests? This production is a pure delight. Narrator Bernadette Dunne flawlessly moves from character to character, giving each one a distinct persona. Sure to captivate listeners. Film rights have been optioned by Warner Bros.-Elizabeth L.
