According to a 2012 survey, 92 percent of women of all ages in the United States don't feel they know enough to reach their retirement savings goals. So states columnist Hunt in her different kind of book, which eliminates jargon while presenting facts and motivation for women of all ages to manage their future retirement planning. The best way to prepare for retirement is for a woman to take care of herself and her money every day. (Hunt refers to the reader as you but considers the reference to be plural, depending on marital status.) She presents six important strategies for her retirement savings plan, which include developing a money management system, building an emergency fund, getting out of debt, maximizing retirement accounts, owning your home outright, and building a personal investment portfolio. Hunt concludes there is more to retirement than just money and emphasizes good health, relationships, and meaningful activities. Hunt is the founder of the website Debt-Proof Living (also a book), the author of more than 20 titles on personal finance (7 Money Rules for Life), and a frequent guest on the Today show. In her latest title, she invites women to a practical and jargon-free conversation about retirement planning in which she shares six strategies she recommends for all women regardless of age: developing a money management system, building an emergency fund, getting out of debt, maximizing retirement accounts, owning one's own home, and building an investment portfolio. Hunt's advice is easy to understand, direct, and motivating. She identifies important financial milestones by decade over the course of a woman's career, as well as steps women who are in their 50s but just beginning to think about retirement should take to catch up. Hunt learned money management the hard way-by bringing her own family out of $100,000 in credit card debt-and her real-life examples, sense of humor, and helpful analogies put the financial literacy needed for retirement planning within reach.
