The volume's wide scope (there's even a section devoted to space- and deep-ocean exploration) is notable, as is its mention that explorers often harmed the native people they encountered. Booklist Review

These new leveled readers from the Kingfisher Readers series illustrate both the difficulties and strengths of trying to appeal to similar-aged readers at different reading levels. The higher-level books in this batch (at levels 4 and 5) are much more engaging than the lower-level one (at level 3). The text in the higher-level books, though brief, focuses on the most fascinating details for each topic. By including a wide range of explorers from the ancient world to modern times, Explorers adds diversity and interest to an otherwise well-worn topic. Each spread feels coherent and interesting, and the flow between topics makes sense. Additional features include a variety of photos, illustrations, maps, and diagrams. Because of the differences in interest levels, these books might appeal to different ends of the suggested age spectrum.
