In three episodes that extend from the 17th century to the present, historian Amanda Vickery traces the history of the fight for women's rights in Great Britain. Vickery (history, Queen Mary Univ., London) focuses on the key events and figures in the struggle toward equality, for example, Mary Wollstonecraft, Hannah More, and Emmeline Pankhurst. Each episode combines Vickery's dramatic retellings with interviews with scholars, experts, and public figures. She visits the sites of the events she relates (e.g., the first march for women's rights in 1649), while newspaper clippings, photographs, and other documents bring to life these significant individuals.
