Publisher's Weekly Review
The beguiling first novel in the Malloys of Montana contemporary series from Ryan (a pen name for Ruth Ryan Langan) depicts the lure of the mountains as a Chicago lawyer falls for a handsome rancher. Matt Malloy meets Vanessa Kettering when she comes to his ranch in Montana to interview his family about protecting the local wild mustangs. Matt and Nessa's attraction heats up after a storm forces them to spend a night alone together in his mountain cabin. When her prosecutor father fears that a high-profile criminal will attack Nessa to get at him, the Malloy family offers to keep Nessa safe at their ranch. With more time together, Matt and Nessa succumb to the romantic tension simmering between them, and Nessa quickly becomes enamored with Matt's grandmother's quest to photograph the wild horses. As danger closes in on Nessa, Matt uses all his resources to keep her safe, even as he begins to fall in love. Touching and romantic, Ryan's portrayal of a city slicker falling for a cowboy delves into the depths of each of their personalities to find common ground in their love for the land. Readers will eagerly anticipate future installments. (May) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
Library Journal Review
Vanessa Kettering comes to the rustic cabin in Montana to talk about wild animal preservation with renowned wildlife photographer Gracie Malloy. But Gracie has sent instead her grandson Matt, who happens to be a hot cowboy, throwing Nessa into a tailspin. When it's revealed that Nessa's father is a district attorney in Boston who is currently prosecuting a high-profile mob case that directly threatens his family, the entire Malloy clan insists that Nessa come to the ranch for safety. Unable to resist temptation, Matt and Nessa sneak off to the cabin where they first met and encounter mobsters and bloodshed. The injured Matt won't lie quietly as every fiber of his being fights to rescue the woman who has won his heart. Fans of Ryan's (The Legacy of Copper Creek) will welcome a return to cowboys and Montana men. Readers will be captivated by the stunning setting, while romance devotees will be hard-pressed not to cry for the love-struck Matt and Nessa. Verdict Ryan has created a gripping love story fraught with danger and lust, pain and sweet, sweet triumph.-Judy Taylor Garner, Strayer Univ., Glen Allen, VA © Copyright 2016.
