School Library Journal Review
Gr 6-8-Each volume examines the cultures of these ancient societies through their literature, artifacts, and documents. Religion, farming, levels of society, art, government, and fine arts are covered in these well-written and attractive books. Throughout the texts and in numerous sidebars, the authors relate fascinating information about ancient settlements in India, a bronze statue of the Buddha unearthed in a Viking marketplace, and the significance of a birth date in Aztec society. Quality full-color photos and reproductions on glossy pages will give readers insight into the daily lives, arts, and contributions of these cultures. Pleasing layouts, plenty of white space, and an easy-to-read font will draw reluctant students. Excellent resources for reports.-Carol Wichman, formerly at Northridge Local Schools, Dayton, OH (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
